Here is another half-baked (if that) work in process scenery that I have been working on for Prepar3d v4.  This is going to be easily recognizable (hopefully) as NAS Kingsville scenery KNQI, in Kingsville Texas.

I think it is time that we get a somewhat improved NAS Kingsville scenery for P3D, to build on what we already have in terms of AI traffic packages.

Who doesn’t love the NAS Kingsville Hawks project that is available over at MAIW? I am attempting to make a slightly better version of this scenery, with some custom object and improved ground textures. And I’m going to make it for P3D v4+.

NAS Kingsville 3d objects

I am not an accomplished 3d modeler by any stretch of the imagination, but I am making an effort here to create my own models for this scenery project and really all of them.

These are just basic SketchUp models – built to scale, using Geopositioned imagery – but the textures are still very much a work in process (as in, still learning and very much lacking in this skill). But I am of the opinion now that this just needs to be a little bit better, it isn’t going to be a triple-A payware quality. Maybe it won’t need to be. Done at some reasonably level of quality is better than continuing to adapt old FS9 projects from 10 years ago (as good as they were at the time).

You might spot a few MAIW scenery library hangars or other objects in the screenshots.  Some of those might be place holders, but the final scenery will make use of many of these objects, so you will want to make sure that you have the converted MAIW object library installed in any case.

NAS Kingsville ground textures

Currently the ground textures are a bit washed out and I am working on my process to improve this.

Right now I am wresting with two different ground poly design techniques, and I haven’t settled on which one is easier or best just yet. Working out the bugs still, but I do think that these skills will enable me to quickly tackle other bases and airfields. So stay tuned.

P3D Scenarios for NAS Kingsville

Clearly the vision is to have a freeware home for the quality freeware T-45 created by the great Dino Cattaneo of IndiaAlfaFoxtrot Sims.  Who doesn’t love this quality aircraft? It is still available and works like a charm in P3D v4+. Is still fly it and enjoy it. In fact, I am posting download links to all his amazing aircraft offerings, freeware and others, over on our download page.

And clearly this scenery package, even in its earliest states, is and will continue to be AI friendly, so that it can showcase the excellent AI traffic package that is available on MAIW.

Why we need NAS Kingsville scenery for P3D

Probably we don’t need a payware version but I do believe there is compelling case to spend some time on creating a decent freeware quality offering. As far as I am aware we have never really had a proper version of NAS Kingsville scenery for P3D v4+.

NAS Kingsville trains 50 percent of the Navy & Marine Corps’ tactical jet pilots each year!

If we have the scenery, and we have the AI aircraft assets, then there is probably room to create and update the outlying airfields and maybe update or modify the AI traffic schedules. Or if nothing else, lets provide some alternatives to what is already out there. More options sounds better than less.

Really, though, what I would like to do is use as a base, or foundation upon which generate saved flight scenarios for P3D – both for creating formation flights with AI and for creating multiplayer flights.

So thanks for your interest, let’s see how far we can get with this.

The purpose of this repaint set was to provide multiple aircraft in any given operational squadron for those that might enjoy simulating USMC aviation in multiplayer scenarios.  Obviously I am…
